About Project AD-01
– Tomorrow’s Android, Made by Human Hands
“First there was art.
Then technology arose.
Not the opposite!
Project AD-01 represents that.”
Fifty years ago, today’s world was unimaginable, even for the people who sat around trying to imagine it. Changes took on such a breakneck pace that to keep up with it all, one would have to morph into some type of cyborg or android. In the near future, that may be possible as well.
“For now, however, we stand at a crossroads.”
We are on the cusp of a spectacular future, filled with strange inventions and awe-inspiring technologies. Already our culture has put such a premium on robots and artificial intelligence that human artistry and ingenuity, so long prized for their benefits to society, have fallen by the wayside.
While the future is worth all of the focus and attention that we have put on it, we also need to consider the people who will inhabit it.
Project AD-01 – An Android to Highlight Our Shared Humanity
You wake up, and your phone is right there next to your bed. At work, you type away on your laptop, and in the evenings, you video chat with friends or family. Technology has become all- encompassing in our society: there is no more avoiding it than there is giving it up altogether. Everywhere you look, everywhere you go, there it is, proliferating more and more.
It was human craftsmanship that brought it to us, though.
Human genius has built this smart, cloud-enabled, always-on-the-move world around us. It didn’t spring up on its own; the computers didn’t put themselves together. A human hand did all that: a human mind envisioned the end product and then human willpower barreled through the obstacles to make the dream into a reality
Through Project AD-01, we get a gentle tap on the shoulder, directing us back to the human at the center of the building process.
“Each sculpture is hand-signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity, making it a true collector’s item.”
Project AD-01 – In the Spirit of Futures Untold
Project AD-01 is, then, an ode to all that we are and a rejection of the modern notion that humans are expendable – or that we are somehow less than the machines because we aren’t as efficient. Sculpted by human hands, and made out of polymer clay, epoxy clay, and artificial stone, Project AD-01 features electronics and paint for a style that is decidedly otherworldly and yet undeniably human. You look into its eyes, and you see the humanity that has gone into.
Past the metallic shine, underneath the robotic glare, one can discern humanity in all the details that it encapsulates.
Because this android is so inhuman, one can’t help but look at it and feel our absence. Feel the power of a symbol of tomorrow, crafted traditionally, by an artist who has spent a lifetime practicing and honing his craft.
